Día de los Muertos Celebration at Grand Park
Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina joined hundreds of Angelenos for a ‘Día de los Muertos’ celebration at Grand Park. Held on the park’s Event Lawn directly in front of City Hall, the event was free to the public – and the party, which started at 5 p.m. sharp, didn’t end until close to midnight.  MORE

9-11 Commemoration Ceremony at Grand Park Community Terrace and Flag Garden
Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina joined local veterans and other dignitaries today for a ceremony at the new Grand Park Community Terrace and Flag Garden to commemorate the eleventh anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. “This reconfigured Community Terrace and Flag Garden pays tribute to our American history and heroes,” Molina said. “It is situated in the center of Grand Park which, in turn, is located in the heart of our Civic Center. The flags are a perfect symbol of our collective memory of the first responders as well as the civilian victims of the September 11th attacks.”  MORE

East L.A. Mexican Independence Day Parade
East L.A. families turned out by the hundreds to honor Fiestas Patrias and Mexico’s independence with an annual parade on Sunday, September 9, 2012. Attendees saw parade floats, classic cars, churros, folklorico dancers, mariachis, high school drill teams, marching bands, and more. MORE

Inaugural East L.A. Bicycle Ride and ArtsFest Finale
It was a hot and sunny day as Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina joined the families from throughout the East L.A. community for the Inaugural East L.A. Bicycle Ride and Bicycle Kitchen on Saturday, September 8, 2012. Check-in started at 8:30 a.m. – and bike riding began at 10 a.m. We hosted two routes: A 1.8-mile “family Ride” and a 4.3-mile ride for the general public. MORE

L.A. Dragon Boat Festival
L.A. County Sup. Gloria Molina joined the county’s Department of Park and Recreation and the International Culture Exchange Association (ICEA) to host the 2012 L.A. Dragon Boat Festival – and to watch her team take home the gold! The race took place on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Legg Lake Park within the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in South El Monte. Valinda ‘National Night Out'
Valinda "National Night Out" was held on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at Rimgrove Park – and it was once again a huge success! The event kicked off with a community march through unincorporated Valinda. Attended by over 800 Valinda residents, Sheriff’s Dept. personnel, and participants in our More Advocates for Safe Homes (MASH) program – which functions similarly to neighborhood watch programs popular in the past – the march began at Grandview Middle School and ended at Rimgrove Park, where we held a community festival into the evening. Held at LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes – which is dedicated both to the founding of Los Angeles and the history of Mexican Americans in the region – the afternoon fiesta event doubled as a one-year birthday celebration for the museum, with a slice of cake for everyone in attendance!
