The EventOn Tuesday, September 1, 2009, L.A. County Sup. Gloria Molina honored students from Pomona High School for their outstanding participation in the “Zero Hour School Initiative” with the county’s Commission on Human Relations. This bold public education campaign brings youth, parents, teachers, administrators, and community members from various backgrounds together to foster connections between them—and, ultimately, prevent racial conflict. The success of this initiative prompted top law enforcement brass within the Pomona Police Department to credit it with decreasing racial violence incidents in the city. It also compelled Pomona Unified School District administrators to expand it to two additional high schools in their area—and to offer a human relations class as a “credit course.”
