On Thursday, February 15, 2007, L.A. County Sup. Gloria Molina, District Attorney Steve Cooley, and Sheriff’s Dept. personnel announced the arrest of the suspect allegedly responsible for killing Robert Whitehead —a resident of unincorporated West Valinda who was shot dead while trying to stop vandals from defacing his neighbor’s wall with graffiti. A $25,000 reward, proposed by Sup. Gloria Molina and Sheriff Lee Baca, eventually led to the arrest of Anthony Castillo. Another suspect—Robert Lopez—is, to date, still at large. Anyone with information is urged to call the Sheriff’s Dept. Homicide Division at (323) 890-5500. Sup. Gloria Molina and her staff extend their heartfelt condolences to Robert Whitehead’s surviving family and hope that today’s arrests provide some comfort during this very difficult time.
