On Thursday, December 7, 2006, L.A. County Sup. Gloria Molina addressed East L.A. parents, children, law enforcement professionals, parks and recreation staff, along with family preservation experts during a Parent Project Graduation Ceremony at the City Terrace Park Gymnasium. The Parent Project is a series of workshops designed to help at-risk East L.A. youth avoid gang activity. The program accomplishes this goal by informing their parents of warning signs, sharing the success stories of other local parents, and providing families with healthy recreational alternatives to the gang lifestyle. In part the brainchild of the supervisor, the Parent Project is operated largely by the L.A. County Sheriff’s Dept., the District Attorney’s office, the Dept. of Parks and Recreation, and Strategies Against Gang Environments (SAGE), a non-profit organization.
