On Thursday, May 4, 2006, L.A. County Sup. Gloria Molina
joined local schoolchildren and environmentalists to commemorate Earth
Day in Southeast L.A. by participating in the official groundbreaking
ceremony for the Cudahy-Bell Los Angeles Riverfront Project. Sup. Gloria
Molina invested over $2 million in Proposition A funds and flood control
dollars via the L.A. County Department of Public Works to bring the
greening project to fruition. Children from the Ellen Ochoa Learning
Center joined youth from the L.A. Conservation Corps, volunteers from
North East Trees, local dignitaries, and Sup. Gloria Molina to plant
trees and native flora along the L.A. River as part of the riverfront
project, which now connects to the greater L.A. River Bikeway.
