On Wednesday, December 6, 2006, L.A. County Sup. Gloria Molina joined Sheriff Lee Baca, dozens of county law enforcement officials, and USC Football Coach Pete Carroll to celebrate the hiring of the 1,000th sheriff’s deputy trainee— Jason Leach, a USC football player and recent graduate.  L.A. County’s aggressive recruitment campaign has been especially successful thanks to symbiotic support between the sheriff and the supervisors.  More sheriff’s deputies are direly needed to keep L.A. County communities—as well as incarceration and rehabilitation facilities—safe.
